The Nimdex Report
A data-journalism investigation into NIMBYism in Ireland's planning system. The full report ships shortly. The quiz is the front door; the report is the room behind it.
Coming soon
The launch report covers six themes. Each is grounded in primary-source data from local-authority portals, An Bord Pleanála, and Courts.ie:
- The objection economy. Who files, how often, and from which postcodes.
- The species defence. 30+ protected species cited as objection grounds; the Hen Harrier is cited 363 times.
- Coordinated campaigns. Template letters, identical paragraphs, near-identical objections from different signers.
- The judicial-review pipeline. 79% of JRs never reach a written verdict. What happens in the 79%?
- FP Logue and the JR concentration. One firm, 174 cases, 26% of all Irish JRs in our window.
- What gets stopped, what gets built. Cross-referencing decision data with what's actually on the ground.
Until then, play the card-vote quiz and read about how the data was put together.
What the quiz is
The card-vote quiz on the homepage shows you a real objection quote from an Irish planning file and asks: did this objection succeed? It's a way to read the actual texture of Irish planning prose without slogging through a court file.
Every card is a primary-source quote. We never show submitter names. The reveal screen shows the outcome, an aggregate of all players' votes, and a stat from the underlying report.
